Lady Godiva in all her glory , Broadgate Coventry.
The local Council has removed the huge canopy which has been covering her for a number of years(I forget how many).....she`s looking very pristine which I suspect won`t last long due to the high pigeon presence!!

Head on Meltdown
Got a bad cold , been floored by it since Friday.
I am so bored of it now . My appetite is non existent which equals no energy and since yesterday my cough , which was already pretty bad has gone into flipping into overdrive! So I`ve resorted to steaming myself with good old vics vapor rub! Seems to calm things a little so hopefully this is a good sign.

Remembering..
I went to my first Remembrance Day Parade today, previously I`ve watched on the tv or stood silent for 2 minutes wherever I happened to be on the 11th.
I wasn`t surprised to see a large turnout but that didn`t stop it being impressive.
A couple of years ago I discovered that my Great Grandmother lost 2 of her 4 sons in WW1.
The one we know most about is James he was a fireman on the minesweeper H.M.S Tarantella.Who tragically fell overboard in Dunkirk on the 11th of November 1918.His body was recovered on the 10th of December "wearing naval trousers and overall suit ......had the appearance of being in the water about 3 weeks" . He was 25 years old.

Hawthorn Tree pub
It has been closed for around 2 months , and due to be demolished.
It was rumoured that a preservation order had been placed on it but since there were signs saying `Danger Demolition` on the fence I`m not so sure.
I`ve no idea how old it is

Holy Trinity Stratford
I went to Stratford last week with a friend , the sun even came out at times. Wandered along the river..then had a late lunch accompanied by a glass of wine which just went straight to my head. Why is it that happens? It doesn`t feel as potent in the evening, or perhaps thats just perception...

Going, going
The view from the balcony on Saturday evening.....I spent a while just sitting and watching. A great way to unwind after work ...

Double Dome
My sister and I spent a couple of lovely nights at The Island Meadow campsite in Aston Cantlow , Hampton in Arden this past weekend.
http://www.islandmeadowcaravanpark.co.uk/
Its a really nice site with friendly, helpful staff and a nice overall atmosphere.
We arrived later than anticipated on Saturday afternoon due to my car key snapping the night before. After much ringing round and general gnashing of teeth at the size of the quotes offered, I was finally given the name of a locksmith in Radford by the Vauxhall dealership.
Thank goodness for Eydens in Wallace Rd , they actually beat their own quote when I eventually got there. On the phone they said £52 which actually turned out to be a very reasonable £35!!
Bit of a difference to the other estimates I had received which ranged from £176 to £450!!!!!
Anyway back to camping. It was a delightful evening on Saturday as we settled in to munch on sausages and drink copious amounts of tea! Unfortunately an essential part of my airbed was missing so I had to rough it which I hate to do......but I got used to it ....

Bored of being sick now , and sick of being bored!
Monday, 21 April 2008
Sadly I wasn`t allowed to take pictures as they have plans for a large media campaign nearer to the opening.
The new extension will house the Local History section (from the Central Library) along with Coventry Archives (from the Canal Basin). This phase has also included a major refurbishment of the art gallery and museum area. Including a change of layout so that both buildings flow together easily.
The new entrance will be opposite the cathedral leading into a large full height space which really shows off the curved wood roof with breathtaking effect.A staircase leads down to the medieval cellar and archive storage in the basement on the right with another going up to the mezzanine level which has a large display area.
Also on this level are unisex toilets so men can now experience queuing! They`re really nicely done , each cubicle has a basin and hand drier.
Outside are several large(approx 8 ft h by 5ft w) flat metal panels listing the different trades in that area over the years, I hope to get some snaps of these in the next few days. Unbelievably I had forgotten my camera today (that almost never happens!!) but it`s probably best as the temptation would have been to great. Getting banned before it opens wouldn`t look too good.

Growing ....
Lots of birds in the garden this week, well probably always but I`ve noticed them more lately. Unfortunately I`m still fighting a losing battle with the bloody pigeons!!! No amount of netting puts them off!
